Statement in response to RSP DCO application delay

Stone Hill Park’s response to the decision by RiverOak Strategic Partners (RSP) to delay its Development Consent Order (DCO) application.

Trevor Cartner, co-owner, Stone Hill Park, said: “Stone Hill Park has always worked on the principle of what would most benefit Thanet in terms of what is deliverable, viable and actually needed.

“The plans for a cargo hub, with talk of 30,000 jobs and 10,000 annual flights are a fiction and entirely built on sand, as has been further exposed this week.

“This week we presented our enhanced masterplan to residents at two public exhibition events, sharing with them how we intend to deliver homes, jobs and millions of pounds of investment for Thanet and deliver on our pledge to honour the heritage of the site.

“On Tuesday (21/11) our team also presented Stone Hill Park’s revised proposals to Kent County Council, a presentation which also demonstrated the fundamental and blatant shortcomings in RSP’s proposals. I would strongly encourage anyone who is interested in the future of the site to watch both our and RSP’s presentations in full, on KCC’s website, so they can judge for themselves.

“Over the coming weeks our team will be working on the final details, that will be included in a revised planning application, which will be submitted to the council as soon as possible.

In the meantime, we will continue to engage the elected representatives of both Thanet District Council and Kent County Council, as well as other community groups and the public at large, so that we can deliver a scheme that will benefit all residents for years to come.”

Ray Mallon, spokesman, Stone Hill Park, said: “It is time for RSP to stop the excuses and admit the game is up on their cargo airport plans.

“No amount of consultation is going to make any difference to their DCO application, which fails the tests for a Nationally Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP) in any event and, if submitted, is destined to fail.

“RSP has consistently misled elected representatives and members of the public on a whole host of issues concerning their proposals.

“There is absolutely no substance in the proposals being peddled by RSP, which for all intents and purposes are an attempted misuse of the DCO process – a process, that is not geared to deal with proposals of this nature.

“Stone Hill Park is here for the long haul, because our plans are the right plans for Thanet.”
